The Three-Word Apocalypse collection has now been revealed! We have four works so far--three fics and one vid--and there's still plenty of time for more submissions to come in.

If you want to, you're welcome to create a post here to let members know about your work. Note that this is entirely optional. If you've added your work to the AO3 collection, that's all you need to do.

There's one week left to sign up for threewordapocalypsefest! If you want to play, you can request your three words here.

In two weeks, on September 1, the collection will be revealed and this community will open for posting. Two weeks after that, we'll close for new submissions this year. That's four weeks total, so if you haven't started working on it yet, there's still time!

For those of you who have started (or finished) your apocalyptic work, feel free to comment on this post to advertise your fandom of choice. Maybe you can win over a few extra readers/viewers.

With that out of the way, does anyone want to chat about apocalypses? Do you have any favourite tropes? Favourite post-apocalyptic fandoms? Favourite barely averted apocalypses? What are you preferred ways of seeing the world end? (Fictionally speaking, of course.)

Please leave a comment on this post if you want to play, and you'll be given your three words as soon as possible. If your first set of words doesn't work for you, you can request a new set. Sign-ups will be open until Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. UTC.

If commitment appeals to you, you're welcome to indicate your fandom and/or intended apocalypse type in your sign-up. If that's not your thing, you can just leave a comment saying you want to play.

Works can be posted to the collection on AO3 at any time. The collection will be revealed on Sunday, September 1, 2024. For those who prefer it, instructions will be provided on how to post here. The collection and community posting will close on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. UTC.

If you'd like some inspiration on ways the world could end, there's a list included below. The options are numbered for the convenience of those who'd like to use an RNG to determine their apocalypse type, but you can also just pick one that appeals to you. And of course, if you prefer a different flavour of apocalypse, you're welcome to use that instead.

Welcome to Three-Word Apocalypse! This is a low-pressure multimedia, multi-fandom fest focusing on apocalypses: trying to prevent them, trying to survive them, not surviving them, or trying to rebuild afterwards.

2024 AO3 Collection

Rules:

1. Sign-ups will open here on Sunday, June 30, 2024 and remain open until 11:59 p.m. UTC on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

2. When you sign up, you will receive three random words. How you use these words is up to you. You can use just one or all three. You can use them as inspiration or incorporate them directly into your work. Whatever works best for you. Creative interpretations of the words are welcome.

3. The sign-up post will include a list of possible ways the world could end. If you'd like to choose from that list, you can, but don't have to.

4. There's an AO3 collection for those who want to post there, but it's not mandatory. If you prefer to post here, instructions will be provided close to that date on how to do so.

5. The collection will be revealed and posting in the community will begin on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

6. Fanfic, graphics, fanvids and fanxmixes are all welcome. There are no minimum length/size requirements.

7. You can submit multiple works if you like, but please try to strike a reasonable balance between quantity and quality.

8. There are absolutely no consequences for signing up and then not producing anything. You don't need to say anything if you're dropping out.

9. Please be courteous to all participants.

10. All works must involve an apocalypse or the possibility of an apocalypse.
